Uganda Cow Project - Part One of Two
In rural developing regions animals, such as cows, can have a huge impact on a family and a community. Click on this need to read in more detail why this is the case and how meeting this need will help save lives. This is the first part of the cow project and involves funding the first half of the herd. The donation amount will allow four cows and two bulls to be purchased for a rural community, Agaria, in Uganda. Completed!

It may not be abundantly clear to us in the developed world but the truth is that these animals can dramatically impact a community in need. Agaria, is a rural Ugandan village where many of the villagers have little to no income and rely on much less than a dollar a day to survive. These are resourceful and intelligent citizens of the world who make do with far fewer resources than anyone who is reading this. This cow project is modeled after an earlier (predates ChooseAneed) cow project in a neighboring community that the founders of ChooseAneed helped to fund. It is a perfect project for ChooseAneed as these individuals have a great need, they have a plan on how to meet the need, they have the skills and knowledge to take care of the cows and use them wisely, and all they need from us is the help to come up with the initial capital to start the herd. The startup expense is prohibitive. If you live on less than a dollar a day, spending over 300 dollars on a cow is almost certainly beyond reach. With this project the initial herd is started through our donations but the villagers take ownership of the herd. They provide for the vet expenses. They rotate the cattle amongst needy families. They milk the cows. They put the cows to plow the fields. They take them to graze. They decide who is responsible enough to be entrusted with the care of the cow. They stand by when the cows are born and they help look after the growth of the herd. Really and truly we have the easy job of providing the funds to purchase the cows. The village does all of the hard work! Let's help them start their herd. This will allow them to plow larger fields, grow more food, have milk, and as the herd grows it will become a source of income for the entire village.
