Desks for Education
The 2007 Uganda Village Project partnered with us a few months ago to provide 'blackboards and desks' for some of the schools they work with. The need was great and the impact can be huge by promoting education and effecting change. See the success stories page to read about the success of the first project and see why we would like to do this at least one more time. Completed! Click on Desks for Education link above for more information.
Summer Assessment
In June and July of 2007, our volunteer team visited all 29 of the schools where Uganda Village Project sponsors students in our scholarship fund, and compiled a report of the school needs cited by the schools, which was then subjected to review by the board of Uganda Village Project. The criteria given to the team were to find the schools which had the greatest need, and, equally importantly, to find schools where the administrators were trustworthy, honest, and hardworking.
Costs
Uganda Village Project will cover all costs associated with the transport to the schools for assessment and reporting, as well as the transport of the finished items to the schools, so that all the money donated by ChooseANeed can go directly towards building materials and labor.
Thirty-six single-seater school desks were built by carpentry students at WAACHA, a vocational school for orphans in Iganga, and delivered to Kimanto Comprehensive Secondary School. These desks will be used for examinations, so that students can write exams comfortably and under fair conditions.
