Scholarship for Education
Through a partnership with the Uganda Village Project we would provide discrete scholarships to children for Secondary Education. These are in essence ‘full rides’ and would be awarded to promising children who would otherwise be unable to obtain an education. Education can make a huge difference in Uganda, it is the difference in being a poor villager working every day to find food to eat and being able to support your entire family through work you can obtain because of your education. The Uganda Village Project which is well established both here in the states and on the ground in Uganda would primarily be responsible for awarding and administering the scholarship. They would draft the requirements for awarding the scholarship and the requirements for a student to continue to receive the scholarship. They would also provide us with annual reports on all the children involved in the project. The cost is 600 dollars per full ride. Completed!

What follows is a recent e-mail from UVP about the scholarship fund in general.
Hello friends of Uganda Village Project Scholarship Fund!
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you this brief report we have compiled on the scholarship fund's activities this year. In 2007, we have been working to support 128 students, which has been a difficult but rewarding task. We support each student at a rate equal to the average of the school fees across all the schools we work with - this year that rate has been set at 47,000 Ugandan Shillings.
Our summer Orphan Support project conducted our annual audit of the scholarship fund, making the difficult trek to the group of rural schools where we are sponsoring students. They also assessed the needs of the schools attended by our students in order to compile a report on how we can help these schools, whose support from their government is tenuous to nonexistent. Many of these schools suffer from a lack of trained staff, lack of scholastic materials such as books or laboratory equipment, and buildings which are unable to accommodate the large numbers of students seeking an education. Finally, this group visited one of the schools where we support a large number of students, Busalamu Secondary School, and conducted a two week long 'summer camp' for the students. During the camp, the team discussed issues that affect the students, such as malaria, eye health, hygiene, and career guidance and counselling. The team also worked to enhance the confidence of the students through song and dance games and debating, through which students developed their public speaking abilities, as well as an end of camp performance.
This is a letter from Josephine Nakalimo, one of the students receiving a scholarship.
