Kids with Knowledge (KWK) Karambi Maternity Ward
Kids with Knowledge hopes to replicate the completed Mugusu Maternity Ward project at the Karambi, Uganda Maternity Ward. Karambi Maternity Ward currently has 10 bare wire metal beds and no equipment such as mattresses, blankets, gloves, basins, gauze, bed sheets, mattress covers and cotton which can help during and after the delivery. Kids with Knowledge hopes to provide the funds to purchase 10 mattresses, 10 leather mattress covers, 10 blankets, 10 bed sheets, 10 basins, 5 boxes of gloves and gauze and 10 boxes of cotton.
Kids with Knowledge (KWK) is a non-profit organization that was started in 2007 in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, mass poverty, and economic hardships that has created many orphans and widows in local Ugandan communities. KWK strives to provide economic, medical, and educational assistance to those in Uganda with the hopes of empowering women, youth, orphans, and the elderly to become self-sufficient and independent. It is KWK's firm belief that knowledge holds the power to help make a difference in the lives of these individuals and create strong long-term communities.
Around 25% of children born in Ugandan communities die yearly due to birthing complications. In addition, 20% of Ugandan women die per year due to complications experienced during child birth. The Karambi Maternity Ward Project presents the opportunity to counter the high mortality rates and to provide women with a respectable and safe environment to give birth.
